London's department stores are currently falling over themselves to become dining destinations and the net result is that we all benefit. The latest shop to announce a new restaurant is Harrods which today revealed it'll be opening a swish new Chinese restaurant in the New Year.
Chai Wu is described as a new modern Chinese restaurant. The 90 seat restaurant will be up on the fifth floor. In charge of the food is Chef Bihu Xie who comes here via Grand Imperial London and the whole thing will be overseen by Ian Pengelley. Pengelly was the chef who launched E&O, runs Gilgamesh and has already opened two restaurants - Mango Tree and Pan Chai in the Harrods Food Halls.
Starters include Chilean sea-bass dumplings with gold leaf, and a Wagyu and black pepper puff. Signature dishes will include Beijing duck, Alaskan king crab with soy glaze, and lotus root and lily bulb in a spicy toban sauce.
The room will feature a charcoal grill in the middle with a dining bar surrounding the grill.
Chai Wu will open on 18th January 2015 on the Fifth Floor at Harrods, 87-135 Brompton Road, Knightsbridge, London SW1X 7XL. Reservations open on the 17th November 2014 - call 0203 819 8888 to book.
