Updated 8/12/16 with soft launch info
Until recently, it's felt like London's tacos have played second fiddle to the burrito, their gut-busting cousin. So it’s great news that street vendor Breddos Tacos, winner of the Taco Wars 2014 (yes, it was a real thing) will be setting up permanent shop in Clerkenwell later this month as they finally close the doors on their roving food truck of four years.
Nud Dudhia, who co-founded Breddos Tacos said that the duo were “super excited to find a permanent home where we can spread our wings. The Taqueria will be a place you can stop in for a breakfast bite, or stay all night listening to vinyl, eating small plates and drinking cocktails with friends.”
Tacos, tostadas and tortilla-based Mexican pizza tlayudas will be on offer for lunch, alongside Yucatan grilled fish tikin xic, and salsa verde with chicharrón - Mexico’s answer to pork scratchings. Crunchy nut sweetbreads, beef tartare with black pudding mole and chicken fried in their homemade masa cornmeal will also be up for grabs, with nothing costing over £5.
If you’re extra-keen for your Mexican fix, dodge the lunch rush and try out some of the breakfast choices, including blueberry churro French toast or Austin-style tacos. Or, visit in the evening for a more traditional dining experience - spit roast Iberico Pork Al Pastor with roasted pineapple, sea urchin tostadas, mutton barbacoa and beef rib birria will all be up for grabs.
While the chefs make the tacos, diners will be encouraged to craft their evening’s ambiance themselves, picking which records they’d like to play from the considerable vinyl collection in the back. And future collaborations with the best taco chefs from around the world are planned. The first pop-up will be with Guerrilla Tacos from LA.
Breddos Tacos opens 8 December 2016 at 82 Goswell Rd, London EC1V 7DB and will be open 7 days a week. They'll be having a 50% off soft launch from 8-10 December (walk-ins only). Follow @BreddosTacos on Twitter @breddostacos
