Blanch and Shock's summer residency at The Endurance in Soho

Blanch and Shock's summer residency at The Endurance in SohoHard on the heels of next week's Pigsaw, the Endurance pub in Soho will play host to another pop-up, albeit a slightly-longer one. The experimental food design studio Blanch and Shock will be taking over the kitchens on Berwick Street from 6 August to 1 September 2012.

Taking a look at a sample menu, it certainly sounds worth a visit:

  • Courgettes, lemon, fennel and spelt
  • Hay-baked potatoes, chicken skin, yoghurt
  • Grilled sweetcorn with aged cider vinegar
  • Octopus and celery
  • Ox heart, parsley and capers
  • Chicken, seaweed, toast crumbs
  • Hay, malt, strawberries

There will also be a pared-down menu of bar snacks on offer as well and special weekend dinners. We caught up with Blanch & Shock's Josh Pollen to find out more.

What can you tell us about Blanch & Shock?

We have been cooking as a trio for around four years. There's Mike Knowlden, Amy Houston and me. We have no kitchen, just a storage unit and a van, and for the first time we will have a space at The Endurance in August to experiment and cook for people with the resources of a restaurant around us.

What will you be planning?

We will be cooking small plates for lunch, revisiting and simplifying dishes we have made over the years. From Monday to Saturday (walk-ins only), there will be a menu of around nine dishes every day, priced between £4 and £8. We will also be doing dinners (Tuesdays to Thursdays) the format of which is still to be decided but which will likely be a pared down, but larger scale, version of something on the lunch menu.

And what about the weekend dinners?

Every Saturday night we will be cooking with collaborators to produce a special dinner for 40 people which will be of a more experimental and exclusive kind, featuring a tasting menu and wine pairings. This will be a ticketed dinner at around £40 a head, bookable via The Endurance.

Blanch & Shock will be at the Endurance from 6 August to 1 September 2012. You can reserve dinner through the Endurance while lunch is for walk-ins only. The daily menus will be posted on Twitter @blanchandshock and you can find out more details on their website.
