It may be a little grey outside, but that never stops the crowds descending on Taste of London every year. The festival kicks off today and runs until Sunday and last night judges lined up to awards the annual Best in Taste awards.
Those judges included the Independent's Tracey Macleoed, The Telegraph's Zoe Williams, Bloomberg's Richard Vines and special guest David Chang of Momofuku fame. They tried 29 of the dishes that will be available throughout the festival over the next few days to pick the few that you should really consider saving your crowns for. The winners were:
- 1st place: Club Gascon's Marmite Royale and Soldiers (16 crowns)
- 2nd place: Spice Market's Black Pepper Shrimp & Sundried Pineapple (14 crowns)
- 3rd place: Cinnamon Soho's Bheja fry: Lamb brains in mince curry
Club Gascon's Pascal Aussignac must really be doing something right, as he also got the top prize last year. Also commended were Le Gavroche's braised beef cheeks, with olives and creamy polenta (10 crowns) and Kensington Place's retro Screwball (8 Crowns).
