If it's not ramen (and there's been a LOT of ramen), we've noticed another clearly emerging trend among London's new openings - the dessert bar. We've recently had The Pudding Bar, there's the great dessert bar at Pollen Street Social among others and now they're joined by basement dessert/cocktail bar basement Sate.
What you need to know about Basement Sate
It's from Cathleen McGarry, who's co-owner of highly regarded Paris cocktail bar Sherry Butt. The basement bar will feature a long bar counter, booths and separate seating too - and will take reservations.
It'll be serving desserts until midnight (with the bar staying open until 1.30am). So if you've had a heavy meal and need a little break before dessert - this place could be ideal. They'll be £8-£13 and are being created by Dorian Picard, a Pastry Chef from Provence who was previously at Gordon Ramsay’s Maze and Club Gascon with Pascal Aussignac.
The desserts are designed to match the cocktails. The signature dessert will be "Vacherin" - lime zest meringue batons, creme of basil with lime gel and orange and cranberry.
The 12 cocktails on the list are a mix on in-house creations and twists on classics. They come from Byly Tran (L’Entree Des Artistes & Prescription Cocktail Club). They'll include the "Brandy Crusta" and will feature ingredients like seaweed, salted caramel, beetroot, and homemade syrups. They'll also have a list of organic wines and craft beers.
