Cheeky overnight: sushi and maximalism at Beaverbrook Town House

The lobby at Beaverbrook Town House, complete with a welcoming decanter of something strong to soothe your travel-weary nerves.

What reason would a Londoner have to overnight here?

Every now and then it's fun to cosplay as a one percenter and a night at this luxurious townhouse hotel in Chelsea would be an easy way of achieving that, short of winning the lottery or marrying very, very well. This is the London outpost of the super luxurious Beaverbook hotel in Surrey. If you've ever wondered what it must be like to live in this part of town and have a key to wander around the private Cadogan Gardens, then a room here gives you access to that lifestyle, albeit temporarily.

Where exactly is it?

You'll find it towards the southern end of Sloane Street, so either Knightsbridge or Sloane Square tubes would get you here. It's also just around the corner from Pavilion Road if you fancy trying any of the many coffee shops or restaurants here during your stay.

Sleeping over

The hotel has 14 suites ranging in size from Deluxe to a two-bedroom studio suite. If you're travelling en masse, you could also take over the whole of the first floor where five bedrooms can be made adjoining. We were in a studio suite on the first floor, The Savoy which was lovely and quiet as it looked over the side street rather than the bustle of Sloane Street itself. The bathroom was huge and nice touches included a minibar filled with complimentary soft drinks.

Room service?

Even though we were booked in for dinner, we couldn't help getting a preview by ordering some sushi up to the room when we arrived. The popcorn shrimp and spicy tuna rolls were great and a nice change from the usual club sandwich (although you could have had one of those too).

What's the restaurant like?

The Fuji Grill Sushi Bar is clearly a popular spot for Chelsea locals as it was buzzing on a Tuesday night. We opted to try the nine-course omakase experience up at the counter - but with hindsight, we'd have preferred to be in the main dining room as that had more of a buzz. The nine-course omakase is £95 making it a pretty affordable (and we use that term extremely loosely) omakase offering for London. Our dinner kicked off with various dishes of sashimi and tartares before a few nigiri options, then a black cod noodle dish and dessert.

Is it worth staying for breakfast?

Definitely. The hotel's a popular spot for breakfast meetings and the fully a la carte offering (no breakfast buffet here) included a very decent eggs benedict.

Overall thoughts:

For a special treat, an overnight stay at the Beaverbrook Town House would fit the bill perfectly. We'd suggest checking in as early as possible so you can wander around Chelsea and enjoy knowing your bedroom is just around the corner. There's currently a Stay & Dine package which for two overnight is £640 with a complimentary minibar and dining credit of £100 per person.
