Donning our high-vis jackets we stepped into the organised chaos that are the last hours in Regent's Park before Taste of London opens to the public. As one of two panels of judges we were here to discover the best dishes of the festival. After several hours of tasting and ruminating, here's what we came up with as our personal favourites from the dishes we tried this year. It's a good place to start.
The Best in Taste award went to Le Petit Beefbar's Crab Taco (£15) filled with Cornish crab meat with satay mayonnaise, served in a crispy paprika taco.
The runner-up for Best in Taste was Roka's Kankoku Fu Kohitsuji (£12) - the most amazing lamb cutlet with Korean spices
Winning the Most Instagrammable Dish Award was Angelina's sausage and shiso leaf tempura (£6) - Shiso leaves stuffed with sausage ragu, finished with parmesan and aged balsamic.
Faber's trout three ways (£8) - Chalkstream trout tartare, served with nori seasoning and parsley oil.
Chai Wu's King crab croquettes (£15) served with a bao bun that is perfect for soaking up all that amazing Singapore sauce.
Rondo's braised short rib bun - 18-hour braised short rib, served in a brioche bun with bone marrow mayonnaise, kimchi and pickled shallots. (£14)
Roti King's Lamb Satay Chops (£14) - Grilled lemongrass and ginger marinated lamb chops with a roasted peanut, tamarind, chilli and pandam leaf satay sauce served with impit rice and cucumber.
Yopo's Iberico Pork with Salsa Pebre (£8) - skewers of Iberico pork presa, pineapple and padron pepper, cooked over charcoal and served with salsa pebre.
Norma's Stuffed Courgette Flower (£14) - crispy courgette flower stuffed with ricotta and ‘nduja, with orange blossom honey and grated Grana Padano PDO Cheese
Bone Daddies' Chilled Confit Duck Mazemen (£12) - cold brothless ramen with confit duck leg, pickled red cabbage, cock scratchings, coriander cress with a yuzu and duck fat dressing.
Illy's soft-serve - head to the Illy stand where Apricity chef Chantelle Nicholson has come up this fantastic no-waste soft serve - even the pot is edible.
Taste of London is running all weekend until Sunday 16 June and the weather forecast is for an excellent few days of alfresco eating and drinking.
