In a world of uncertainty, one thing's for sure, a great Sunday lunch is unbeatable. Even better are the ones you don't have to cook yourself. We've rounded up the best Sunday roasts in London from Islington to Peckham whether you're after roast beef with all the trimmings or something interesting for vegetarians.
Central London
The Devonshire
Soho - 17 Denman Street, London W1D 7HW
One of London's hottest restaurants and pubs, The Devonshire is already known for the quality of its meat, so it's no surprise that the Sunday lunch is a big draw. As with the main menu, a lot of work has been put in by chefs Ashley Palmer-Watts and Jamie Guy to deliver a top-notch Sunday lunch. They also have an old carvery trolly from Simpsons so it's all carved tableside.
What’s the Sunday roast? Unlike the weekday menu, the Sunday lunch focuses on one main course, which at the time of writing is a roast rib of beef, potatoes, carrots, leeks, peas, Yorkshire pudding and lots of gravy.
The Audley/Mount St Restaurant
Mayfair - 41-43 Mount Street, London W1K 2RX
Both the downstairs pub and upstairs restaurant here at Art Farm's place on Mount Street serve up excellent roast options on a Sunday. Your only decision is whether you want an informal or formal Sunday lunch.
What’s the Sunday roast? In the pub you can choose from roast Devonshire chicken with bread sauce and roast beef with Yorkshire pudding - both served with seasonal vegetables and gravy. In the restaurant, there's also roast beef but also the option of a Durslade Farm lamb loin with stuffed courgette flower, tomato & anchovy.
Claridge's Restaurant
Mayfair - Brook Street, London W1K 4HR
If you're looking for something a little more on the high end, then the Sunday lunch at the new-ish Claridge's restaurant should fit the bill. There's a special set menu every week, with an aim to "celebrate British traditions" with a few modern twists.
What’s the Sunday roast? The main event features options of truffle-stuffed chicken, Herefordshire sirloin and lamb rump with a fully vegan menu available too. The usual trimmings are all there, and you can finish off with a dessert for the table - the Claridge's chocolate, which comes with a hammer, being the must-have.
Fallow
St James - 2 St James’s Market, London SW1Y 4RP
In addition to their viral Saturday brunch, the Sunday lunch game is extremely strong at Fallow. If you fancy trying it out, you're going to need to book well in advance.
What’s the Sunday roast? Options include dairy-cow rump or fillet, or a rolled pork belly and whole rotisserie chicken as well as a vegetarian option of roast maitake mushroom. All come with roasties, Yorkshire puddings, glazed parsnips, buttered swedes, greens and gravy.
Blacklock
Shoreditch, Soho, City, Covent Garden, Canary Wharf
Blacklock’s Sunday lunch is the stuff of London legend and has previously won the much-coveted OFM Award for best Sunday roast.
What’s the Sunday roast? Choose from 55-day aged beef rump, 28-day aged lamb leg or 21-day aged pork loin or - even better go ‘all in’ and try them all. It comes with all the trimmings, including Blacklock’s infamous bone marrow gravy. There's a barbecued cauliflower chop for non-meat eaters.
Hawksmoor
Spitalfields, Seven Dials, Borough, Knightsbridge, Piccadilly, Canary Wharf and Guildhall.
Anywhere as devoted to meat as Hawksmoor is should be able to turn out a solid roast, and so this proves to be - it's definitively one of the best in town.
What’s the Sunday roast? They keep it simple with just one meat - a slow roast rump. And that comes with beef dripping roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, carrots, greens, roasted shallots and garlic as well as bone marrow and onion gravy. You can also choose any of the sharing cuts from the board and add all the trimmings to that.
Lore of the Land
St James - 2 St James’s Market, London SW1Y 4RP
Guy Ritchie’s Fitzrovia pub is always a good spot to hit up for a central London pub lunch. Start with pints and scotch eggs downstairs before heading upstairs to the dining room for the Sunday roasts.
What’s the Sunday roast? There are three main Sunday options - Roast rare breed pork belly, slow-cooked Philip Warren lamb, dry-aged beef sirloin and roast 90-day-old chicken. All of those come with beef fat roast potatoes, glazed carrots, Yorkshire pudding and roasting juices.
Sophie's Soho
Soho - 42-44 Great Windmill St, London W1D 7NB
This Soho steakhouse (which you'll also find in Chelsea) does epic Sunday lunches, cooked over its firepit, with meat that comes from Cornwall's Philip Warren butchers.
What’s the Sunday roast? You can order roast West Country beef or cornfed chicken, but the main event is the slow roast prime rib of beef which comes with watercress, and fresh horseradish. All the roasts here come with potatoes, seasonal veg and lots and lots of gravy. The veggie option is a grilled hispi cabbage with vegan gravy.
North London
Pig & Butcher
Islington - 80 Liverpool Rd, London N1 0QD
Charlie XCX picked this as one of her favourite places to eat in London, so if you've missed having a Brat summer you can always opt for a Brat Sunday lunch instead. As the name suggests meat is a big thing here and they butcher it on site.
What’s the Sunday roast? Sunday options include a 45 day salt aged Yorkshire sirloin, Tamworth pork belly and a Sutton Hoo chicken crown to share, all of which come with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes, greens, honey-roasted carrots & parsnips. There's also a Celeriac Tart Tatin for those swerving meat.
Homeboy
Islington - 108 Essex Rd, London N1 8LX
This Irish bar may be best known for its cocktails and Guinness but it also has a full food menu on offer which includes a Sunday lunch which is, of course, a proper Irish Sunday roast.
What's the Sunday roast? Choose from dry-aged roast beef, chicken or the weekend's vegan roast and have it paired with an Irish pud (think crispy, smashed hash browns), peas, cabbage, mash and roast potatoes (because you can never have enough potatoes).
The WB Yeats
Finsbury Park - 20 Fonthill Rd, London N4 3HU
This cosy Irish pub in Finsbury Park has built up quite the reputation for its Sunday lunch offering over the years. Come early on a Sunday if you want to be sure of getting what you're after.
What’s the Sunday roast? Choose from Sirloin beef with horseradish cream, rolled pork belly with Burnt Bramley, free range roast chicken or a roast butternut squash. All of those come with roasties, glazed carrots, cauliflower cheese, root vegetable mash, cabbage, Yorkshire puddings and gravy.
The Baring
Islington - 55 Baring St, London N1 3DS
Start your Sunday lunch at this Islington gastropub with either a Pul Beiber Bloody Mary or a Blurred Vines alcohol-free fizz depending on how your Saturday night has been.
What's the Sunday roast? There are four main options - a Simmental beef bavette with Yorkshire pudding, Ibaïama pork with kalettes & cherry ketchup and charcoal grilled Vendée chicken served with cavolo nero & bread sauce. Or opt for the grilled Hereford sirloin for two with Yorkshire pudding. All come with roasties, hispi cabbage and gravy.
The Parakeet
Kentish Town - 256 Kentish Town Rd, London NW5 2AA
As you might imagine the critically-raved about Kentish Town pub puts as much effort behind the scenes into its Sunday lunch offering as it does its weekday menu.
What's the Sunday roast? The best options are the sharing roasts - so go for the hay-smoked roast chicken, or roast beef or lamb. For veggies, there’s a Celeriac Wellington. All roasts come with spring greens, roast potatoes, seasonal root veg, Yorkshire pudding, and carrot & swede puree.
Guanabana
Kentish Town - 83-85 Kentish Town Road, London NW1 8NY
If you’re after a Latin-Caribbean restaurant that serves up a halal menu then you’ve come to the right place with Guanabana.
What's the Sunday roast? The restaurant’s famous Island roast sees them offering either oak-wood smoked and jerked roast beef or half a jerk chicken. Trimmings include plantain, baby carrots, roasted potatoes, grilled cabbage, and loads of jerk gravy.
Bull & Last
Highgate - 168 Highgate Rd, London NW5 1QS
This hugely popular Highgate pub has long had a reputation for its Sunday roasts (winning an OFM award for them). It's also perfectly situated for a pre or post-Sunday lunch walk on Parliament Hill.
What's the Sunday roast? Recent options have included Roast Old Spot pork loin, Roast sirloin of Shorthorn beef, a North Essex Shorthorn prime rib for two. For the veg option, there's currently a celeriac and mushroom Taleggio Wellington.
Red Lion and Sun
Highgate - 25 North Rd, London N6 4BE
We are huge fans of this lovely Highgate pub which has two gorgeous gardens - the front one is often covered to protect punters from the British weather.
What’s the Sunday roast? There's roast rib of Aberdeen Angus beef or 35-day dry-aged Hereford Cote de boeuf, slow-roasted belly of middle white pork and half a roast chicken. On the veg side, a vegetable and chestnut roast comes with onion gravy. If you book ahead there's also the option of a roast suckling pig to share.
The Drapers Arms
Islington - 44 Barnsbury St, London N1 1ER
Picked by the Guardian as serving one of the best Sunday lunches in the country, this neighbourhood Islington pub is one of a few gastropubs worth crossing town for.
What’s the Sunday roast? A recent menu included roast pork belly, rare roast 48-day aged sirloin, medium rare 28-day aged rump cap, whole roast chicken, seven-hour shoulder of lamb and a Cote de boeuf.
Parlour
Kensal Rise - 5 Regent Street, London NW10 5LG
Run by Jesse Dunford Wood, Parlour in Kensal Rise has a pretty epic Sunday Roast menu and it's a good option if you've had gone large the night before as it's on offer until 10pm.
What’s the Sunday roast? Lots of choice, including sirloin of shorthorn beef, brined and roasted chicken and Paddock Farm Tamworth pork. Or if the choice is just too much, go for a platter with a bit of everything. And there are big platters for larger groups. The veggie option is a Redefine New Meat and portobello mushroom Wellington.
South London
The Alma
Wandsworth - 499 Old York Rd, London SW18 1TF
British pub classics are what this Wandsworth pub specialises in and its Sunday lunch menu is no exception. Start strong with their homemade milk bread and bone marrow butter and save room for pudding.
What’s the Sunday roast? Sundays include butcher Frank Godfreys' 35-day aged rump of British beef, a Dingley Dell porchetta and roast Hertfordshire chicken from the Josper grill. New to the menu is a slow braised Thor's hammer shin of beef. If decision-making isn't your forte there's an Alma Trio Roast option which includes all three meats. Sides are also top tier from the duck fat roasties, charred tenderstem broccoli and double egg Yorkshire puddings.
Perry Hill Pub
78-80 Perry Hill, London SE6 4EY
Sunday lunches are, by common consensus, on point at this Catford pub which goes to great lengths to please all customers by serving beef either perfectly pink or cooked through depending on their preference.
What’s the Sunday roast? There are three roasts on offer - a 48-day aged Galloway shorthorn rump of beef, roast rolled belly of Cumbrian pork and half a Devon red free-range chicken. The trimmings are Chantenay carrots, green beans, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
Kudu Grill
Peckham - 57 Nunhead Ln, London SE15 3TR
Anyone who’s a fan of this South African braai restaurant in Nunhead would have expected great things from their Sunday roast. The smokey touch of the grill is employed in every element of their lunch offering from the beef to the carrots.
What’s the Sunday roast? Choose from beef rump roast, roast pork belly or celeriac roast served with sweetcorn bread,fingerling potatoes, grilled carrots, broccoli, fondant shallots and smoked thyme jus.
Camberwell Arms
Camberwell - 65 Camberwell Church Street, London SE5 8TR
This South London pub is owned by the team behind The Canton Arms and the Camberwell Arms. It has a great reputation for the Sunday roast, but it’s always worth a trip across town for their seasonally changing menu.
What’s the Sunday roast? It's a sharing feast-style menu - so come with a gang. There might be half a spit-roast chicken, roast pork belly, rolled leg of lamb. A recent veggie main was roasted cauliflower with freekah and cow curd.
Canton Arms
South Lambeth - 177 South Lambeth Rd, London SW8 1XP
This pub has Trish Hilferty in charge, who was formerly of both the Eagle in Clerkenwell and the Anchor & Hope in Waterloo and is referred to as “gastropub royalty” - so it’s definitely a pub to make a trek to.
What’s the Sunday roast? There's a braised Dexter short rib , half a roast Yorkshire chicken or a huge seven-hour Salt Marsh lamb shoulder for up to five people sharing which comes with potato and olive oil gratin. Options for veg are dishes like celeriac and mushroom lasagne.
Knife
Clapham - 160 Clapham Park Rd, Clapham Common, London SW4 7DE
The website for this popular South London spot sets out their stall as: 'serious steaks and Sunday roasts'. Judging by the popularity of the latter at least, they're getting it right.
What’s the Sunday roast? Roasts on offer include rare roast Belted Galloway beef rump, Herdwick lamb leg & shoulder, roast Cumbrian chicken and a slow-roasted Saddleback pork belly. The veg option is a great-sounding Stinking Bishop & wild mushroom wellington.
East London
Lagom
Hackney - 17 Bohemia Pl, London E8 1DU
Chef Elliot Cunningham may be best known for his amazing burgers which he serves up at his Lagom live fire restaurant inside this Hackney brewery, but his Sunday roasts are also super-popular and require booking at least a month ahead.
What’s the Sunday roast? You might find a half or whole smoked chicken, beef rump and coal roasted pork belly on the Sunday menu alongside a whole roasted celeriac. But the must-try option are Elliot's hangover bowls which feature offcuts of all the meats with the beef brisket gravy.

Acme Fire Cult

For a smoky hit to your Sunday roast you'll need to book a table at Andrew Clarke's Acme Fire Cult where chefs cook everything over a live fire.
What’s the Sunday roast? The roast here is inspired by the nearby mangal restaurants and sees a selection of roast meats served up in platters. Recently that's included Tamworth pork belly, roast Highland beef, smoked Cotechino sausage and more.
The Culpeper
Spitalfields - 40 Commercial St, London E1 6LP
If sustainability is a key deciding factor in your Sunday roast, then The Culpeper ticks all the boxes. Not only is their veg from minimal intervention farms and meat from British farmers in Yorkshire & Wiltshire using regenerative farming methods, but they also grow some of their own herbs on their rooftop in the City.
What’s the Sunday roast? Choose between options like top rump roast beef or Soanes chicken. Veggie options have included a butternut squash, sweet potato & goat's cheese wellington.
Duke of Richmond
Dalston - 316 Queensbridge Rd, London E8 3NH
This is the Dalston pub from chef Tom Oldroyd. While the burger and the crab and chip butty are a must, the team here obviously understands the need to get the Sunday lunch just right.
What’s the Sunday roast? At the time of writing, Yorkshire chicken, a rolled Tamworth pork belly or slow roast topside of Highland beef - all come with beef fat roast potatoes and trimmings. There's a brown butter roast cauliflower with hazelnut crumb for the veg option.
The Gun
Spitalfields - 54 Brushfield St, Spitalfields, London E1 6AG
There's been a hostelry on this spot since the 17th century, but the current pub is a very modern iteration, complete with full-grown tree inside.
What’s the Sunday roast? There are three meaty options, a 28-day aged beef sirloin, a boneless half chicken and a slow-cooked lamb shank. They all come with the biggest Yorkshire pudding you're likely to see. There's also a good mushroom and black bean roast with vegan gravy.
The Ned
City - 27 Poultry, London EC2R 8AJ
They go big on Sunday lunch at The Ned, serving up a buffet-style Sunday lunch which is often booked months in advance. You'll want to come very hungry for this one.
What’s the Sunday roast? The Ned's Feast is served in Millie's lounge on the ground floor and is an all-you-can-eat buffet that's deservedly legendary. Lobsters, oysters, roast beef, pork and chicken and dessert - you name it, it's here.
Quality Chop House
Clerkenwell - 92–94 Farringdon Road, London EC1R 3EA
Is there anything that they don't do well at QCH? Sunday lunches may be a marginally pared-down menu to the rest of the week, but they're still strong on seasonal starters and interesting cuts of meat for the roast.
What’s the Sunday roast? A recent menu offered options of Aberdeen Angus rump and smoked brisket, Saddleback belly and Suffolk lamb shoulder. All come with the usual options and you can pay extra to add in some of their famous confit potatoes. A veg roast option might be the butter and herb-roasted celeriac.
The Marksman
Hackney - 254 Hackney Road, London, E2 7SJ
The first Public House in London to be awarded the Michelin Pub of the Year, this popular East London gastropub also turns out a very good Sunday lunch.
What’s the Sunday roast? Sunday lunches are a set menu affair with recent roasts including a roast Hereford rump or a whole roast chicken. The veggie option was recently a spinach, goat’s curd & courgette pie and make sure to get an order in early for the brown butter tart dessert.
The Spread Eagle
Homerton - 224 Homerton High St, London E9 6AS
This Homerton pub was London's first fully vegan pub and it also goes big on sustainability too.
What’s the Sunday roast? It has its own spin on the Sunday roast classics so there's beet wellington, walnut & cashew nut roast or slow roast celeriac with 'crackling' served with all the trimmings including potatoes, roasted carrots, seasonal greens, Yorkshire pudding and gravy.
West London
The Holland
Kensington - 25 Earls Ct Rd, London W8 6EB
Sunday roasts are very popular at this Kensington gastropub where you can revive yourself with a plum bellini or Bloody Mary before you tackle the main event.
What’s the Sunday roast? Options on the Sunday menu include a roast beef rump, confit chicken leg or a roasted crown prince squash with vegan gravy. Or you could go all in and pick the 1kg rib of beef with comes with all the trimmings and serves two to three people
The Cadogan Arms
Chelsea - 298 King's Rd, London SW3 5UG
This smart Chelsea pub has a top-class team running things. So you can rest assured that their Sunday offering will be on point.
What’s the Sunday roast? Sunday lunch has a Cumbrian rump of beef with bone marrow sauce, shoulder of lamb or half a roast chicken with brioche and herb stuffing. There's also a sharer board with a selection of them all. For the plant-forward option, it's the Gardener's Pie.
No. 50 Cheyne
Chelsea - 50 Cheyne Walk, London SW3 5LR
This elegant London pub down by the river has a restaurant run by ex-Jason Atherton chef Iain Smith.
What's the Sunday roast? Choose from a 100-day aged rib of Belted Gallow beef, roasted beef sirloin or Cumbrian chicken. For non-meat eaters, there's the roasted cauliflower. They also do a popular roast-to-take-home option.
The Cleveland Arms
Paddington - 28 Chilworth St, London W2 6DT
This local favourite is extremely handy if you're travelling via Paddington on a Sunday.
What’s the Sunday roast? Choose from roast Suffolk chicken, pork belly or beef topside. All come with roast potatoes, cabbage and a Yorkshire pudding. The veg option is the roasted cauliflower with salsa verde.
The Fox & Pheasant
Chelsea - 1 Billing Rd, London SW10 9UJ
James Blunt and wife Sofia Wellesley own this 17th-century pub, which they bought on the mews where they used to live. As locals, they stood to benefit by giving this Chelsea pub a proper makeover.
What’s the Sunday roast? They keep it trad down in Chelsea - three options, roast beef sirloin, roast pork belly and whole roast spatchcock chicken to share - all of which come with the usual trimmings and sauces. The veg option is a cauliflower cheese steak.
Harwood Arms
Fulham - Walham Grove, London, SW6 1QR
It’s still the only Michelin-starred pub in London, which should give you an idea of the quality. The venison scotch egg is a must before hitting the roasts.
What’s the Sunday roast? Choose from a classic like Sirloin of Belted Galloway alongside slow-cooked deer shoulder and roast monkfish. They all come with Yorkshire puddings, roasties and cauliflower cheese.
And for something a bit different...
The Dover
Mayfair - 33 Dover St, London W1S 4NF
This star-studded Mayfair hangout might not be your first thought when it comes to Sunday lunch, but once a month The Dover runs a monthly Sunday lunch club. Think of it as an elevated all-you-can-eat experience with the bar laid out with aperitivo to graze on. For mains you'll want the beef arrosto as your roast beef alternative.
The Yorkshire Burrito
Camden, Wembley and Walthamstow
The kind of Sunday roast that would have purists weeping, this street food sensation rolls up everything you’d find in a Sunday roast in a Yorkshire and serves it as a burrito. Choose from a beef, chicken and cauliflower cheese burrito, add in loaded roastie sides and make sure you get a gravy pot for dunking.
