This year the iconic Japanese whisky brand Nikka is celebrating its 90th anniversary. The distillery was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru, the scion of a Japanese sake brewery family who spent two formative years between 1918 and 1920 learning the art of whisky making in Scotland. When he returned to Japan (with his Scottish wife, Rita) he used those traditional Scotch production techniques along with Japanese precision and attention to detail to create Nikka and becoming, in the process, The Father of Japanese Whisky.
90 years is a huge milestone for the brand and to celebrate they're holding a series of events and experiences. 90 Days of Nikka starts in September, running through October (and London Cocktail Week). Here's our guide to what's going on in London for it.
TT

The East London bar will hold a Jazz Kissa evening of music, cocktails and whisky tasting (19 September) and have a special Nikka cocktail menu in their Cellar Bar (16-19 October). In October there'll be a two-week cinema takeover featuring a curated selection of films, perfectly paired with a menu of Nikka cocktails.
Shochu Lounge

ROKA's subterranean bar is putting on a dedicated Nikka Cocktail menu for London Cocktail Week (3-13 October). The signature cocktails will also be available upstairs in the restaurant. The bar will also be the venue for the UK final of Nikka’s ‘Perfect Serve’ cocktail competition (9 October).
Kioku Bar
The OWO, 2 Whitehall Pl, London SW1A 2BD
The newest bar to open at The OWO is taking part in three months of events. There'll be a series of bar takeovers during London Cocktail Week with The Milk Thistle (Bristol) and the team from NYC bar Shinji. on 10 October there will be a tea pairing with whisky pairing and on 17 November they'll host a sake and whisky pairing and masterclass.
Aqua Kyoto

The rooftop bar's creative manager Camilo Jimenez has created an exclusive range of Nikka cocktail serves, including a Masataka Sour, which will be available throughout the 90 Days of Nikka festivities.
8 at The Londoner
38 Leicester Square, London WC2H 7DX
Head up to the top floor of this hotel to find a bar serving a menu of three elevated Nikka cocktails. Those will include a twist on a classic Gimlet using Nikka Coffey Gin, a highball with Nikka Coffey Vodka and a twist on an Old-Fashioned using Nikka Days. All the drinks will be available from 9 September to 2 November.
Kwant

At Kwant, award-winning bartender Erik Lorincz and his team have put together an exclusive omakase menu which will be running for three months, complemented by a food pairing event during London Cocktail Week and special Nikka cocktails available as part of the Connoisseur Cocktail collection.
OXO Tower Restaurant
Barge House St, London, SE1 9PH
Overlooking the river Thames, the OXO Tower Restaurant, Bar & Brasserie has a dedicated Nikka menu planned for London Cocktail Week including two cocktails, Kumori with Nikka vodka and Kiiro with Nikka Coffey Grain. Guests will also be able to order a special Nikka whisky flight featuring Nikka From The Barrel, Nikka Tailored and Nikka Taketsuru. Also look out for the Japanese whisky tasting at Harvey Nichols in Knightsbridge on 10 October.
