As we kick off another year, the London restaurant scene already has a number of very promising restaurants just around the corner. From the return of Jeremy King and fancy hotels with big-name chefs to some indie gems, here's what you have to look forward to in 2024.
Jeremy King returns
Hyde Park, Mayfair, Strand
Top restaurateur Jeremy King (originally behind The Wolseley, Brasserie Zedel and more) is making a pretty spectacular return to the London restaurant scene in 2024 with three big openings planned. First up should be The Park, just by Hyde Park which will be a grand cafe-style restaurant with a menu inspired by American restaurateurs like Jonathan Waxman and Danny Meyer. Then there's Arlington which sees him bringing Le Caprice back to its former glory in all but name. Finally, and probably the most ambitious project of all, he's also reviving Simpson's in the Strand, a restaurant that's been in great need of a proper hand behind the wheel for a while now.
All in all, it looks to be a very promising year for Mr King.

Camille
Borough Market - 2-3 Stoney Street, London SE1 9AA
Camille comes from Clare Lattin and Tom Hill the duo behind Ducksoup and Little Duck and it's another great restaurant for Borough Market, which has been having a bit of a moment recently with some great new openings like Akara and Kolae. Camille will be a French bistro using British produce with dishes including a cep-stuffed chicken wing, served alongside a wine list of small French producers. The pair's other restaurants have been big hits, so this is definitely something to look forward to.
Opening: February 2024
Singapulah
Soho - 53 Shaftesbury Ave, London W1D 6LB
Singaporean restaurateur Ellen Chew has launched Singapulah before, but only as a pop-up inside Arome cafe. This time it's going to have its own standalone site, as well as involving a team-up with the Singapore tourist board. In addition to being a restaurant, it'll also be a Singaporean deli covering four stories of this Soho building.
Opening: February 2024
Josephine
Chelsea - 315 Fulham Road, London SW10 9QH
After opening two restaurants in 2023, Claude Bosi is maintaining momentum in 2024 by opening another, this time in partnership with his wife Lucy. Taking over what used to be Colette in Chelsea, it's a restaurant that focuses on Lyonnaise food as well as French bistro classics. They'll also be offering Bouchon-style metre wine, so you pay only for what you drink.
Opening: January 2024
Big Night
Hackney - 177 Morning Lane, London E9 6LH
One of the first really interesting new openings of the year will be in Hackney as an ex-Flor/Lasdun/Larry's duo take over the old Nest site on Morning Lane. With communal tables, loads of dishes on sticks and the music turned up this should be a fun place to hit up at the weekends.
Opening date: 11 January 2024
Endo at the OWO
Whitehall - Address
There were a lot of openings at The OWO in 2023 but there are even more to come in 2024. They may also be saving the best till last as top Japanese chef Endo Kazutoshi is taking on a prime position, opening a rooftop bar and restaurant here, which should have some great views of the surrounding area. Details of the Japanese restaurant are still to be revealed but we do know that he's also opening a sushi bar on the ground floor of the hotel. That's not all from The OWO, as Milan's Langosteria will also be opening sometime this year.
Opening: Spring 2024
Wildflowers
Pimlico - Unit 2, 57 Pimlico Road, London SW1W 8NE
This restaurant is launching in a brand new part of Pimlico called Newson's Yard. In charge of the restaurant is chef Aaron Potter, who was previously at Elystan Street and also impressed us with his cooking at Maria G's (in its original incarnation). Here, he's going for a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, wine bar & deli, which he's been previewing with a round of supperclubs. Dishes previewed there included spiced lamb kromesky and a sugar-pit pork chop, so hopefully we'll see those appear at the restaurant too.
Opening: Early 2024
Akira Back at The Mandarin Oriental
Mayfair - 22 Hanover Square, Mayfair, London W1S 1JP
Much like 2023, this year promises another round of luxe hotels opening in London, with big-name chefs involved. Chef Akira Back is in charge of the restaurants and bar at the new Mandarin Oriental that's right on Hanover Square. The chef himself has won many awards around the world and here in London, he's planning a modern interpretation of Japanese cuisine for the new hotel, including a notable new special - a Wagyu tempura Wellington. He's going to be in charge of two restaurants, a bar and a rooftop 'experience' at the hotel, but there might be more to expect from Back in London. There have been plans to open his AB Steak restaurant in Soho too, so we may also see that coming later in 2024.
Opening date: Spring 2024
The Cocochine
Mayfair - 27 Bruton Place, London W1J 6NQ
Originally planned to open last year, ex-Petrus chef Larry Jayasekara should be unveiling his Mayfair restaurant soon, given the parade of dish previews we've been seeing on Instagram. A joint venture with businessman and gallery owner Tim Jefferies, we're expecting pretty impressive things from the design work and already the preview dishes are looking amazing. Pictured is a poached native lobster with spiced yoghurt, yuzu and bone sauce and we're also liking the sound of the Coronation Dorset crab.
Opening: Early 2024
ABC Kitchens at The Emory
Belgravia - Old Barrack Yard, Belgravia, London SW1X 7NP
Another big new hotel opening will be The Emory, which comes from the hotel group behind Claridge's, The Connaught and The Berkeley (which it's right next door to). In charge of the food is chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten, who will be opening ABC Kitchens here at the top of the hotel. He's opened a few ABC restaurants in New York and this London outpost will bring together dishes from all of them (hence the plural version of the title). He'll also be responsible for the food in the ground-floor bar which will have its own hidden courtyard.
Opening: Spring 2024
Also opening in 2024
Gerry’s Hot Subs (Exmouth Market) - Previously a delivery success, this comes from Andre Blais, who founded BBQ restaurant Bodean's. Alongside the titular hot subs, expect bowls of poutine, wings and salads.
Stevie Parle's new restaurant (Mayfair) - It's the chef's first new restaurant since post-lockdown hit Joy, but as yet he's keeping details of what's planned close to his chest.
Morchella (Exmouth Market) - The team behind Perilla are launching a new restaurant with Mediterranean food as the focus.
Mimosa (Marylebone) - This is the new restaurant at The Langham (replacing Roux at the Laudau). Coming from the same group behind Cafe Laperouse, it's a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant and there will be a focus on eggs mimosa.
Guinness Storehouse (Covent Garden) - Coming as part of a big redevelopment of the area, this brings a new brewery to Covent Garden, complete with a rooftop bar. At least The Devonshire won't have to go far for their Guinness restocks.
Effie (Bayswater) - Part of the big redevelopment of Whiteley's, this comes from the Pachamama group with a menu inspired by the Aegean coast.
Burnt Ends (Knightsbridge) - Chef Dave Pynt is planning to bring his restaurant from Singapore to London and is the next opening from Harrods which is having a pretty impressive run of late.
Jason Atherton's next (Mayfair) - While the chef himself has been very quiet on the news, we're expecting Jason Atherton to open at least one new restaurant in Mayfair in 2024, but he may even open two.
July (Fitzrovia) - This is an Alsatian-inspired wine bar on Charlotte Street which has ex-40 Maltby Street chef Holly Hayes leading the kitchen.
Restaurant Story (Bermondsey) - Closed for almost a year, during which chef Tom Sellers opened two more restaurants, Restaurant Story is getting ready to unveil its big new look, having added an extra floor to the building.
Julie’s (Holland Park) - Hoping that the third time will be a charm, Julie's is getting another big revamp, this time with a local in charge of things who is bringing it back as a neighbourhood French brasserie.
Trejo’s Tacos (Notting Hill) - The Hollywood tough man is bringing his taco empire to London.
Ones to watch outside of London
The Garden (Cobham) - After ending the year with the huge success of The Devonshire of which he's a co-founder, chef Ashley Palmer-Watts takes over the reins of this Surrey location for a restaurant and wine bar.
Hansom (Bedale, Yorkshire) - Chef Ruth Hansom launches her solo restaurant, a modern British affair.
Skof (Manchester) - He's worked with Simon Rogan and now chef Tom Barnes is launching this restaurant billed as "accessible, yet ambitious."
Psycho Sandbar (Leeds) - This used to be chef Michael O'Hare's The Man Behind the Curtain, but it's getting a new life as a more relaxed seafood restaurant.
