The Michelin Guide has unveiled its new stars for 2024. Michelin stars are much prized by chefs and it's still the main restaurant award that is globally recognised. Here are the London restaurants that got their new stars in 2024.
New three-starred restaurants
The Ledbury
Notting Hill - 127 Ledbury Road, London W11 2AQ
One of London's great restaurants and one that's often raved about by foodies as among the very best in town. Fronted by chef Brett Graham, it returned after being post-Covid with a complete revamp, featuring a glammed-up redesign and much more of a high-end feel than before. It got its two Michelin stars straight back last year after reopening and has finally reached three this year. Oh, and it grows its own mushrooms.
How much? Starts at £165 for the six-course tasting menu, rising to £210 for the full tasting menu at dinner.
New two-starred restaurants
Brooklands
Belgravia - The Peninsula, 1 Grosvenor Pl, London SW1X 7HJ
Brooklands is the rooftop restaurant at The Peninsula London run by multi-Michelin-starred chef Claude Bosi. The restaurant boasts a showstopper room with a Concorde replica on the ceiling while the food aims for a journey across the British Isles using sustainably sourced ingredients. There's also a large terrace and an equally impressive cocktail bar with views across London.
How much? Three course a la carte at lunch and dinner is £145 with tasting menus starting at £175.
Gymkhana
Mayfair - 42 Albemarle Street, London W1S 4JH
The Sethi family's concept of taking a colonial gymkhana club theme and serving modern Indian food combined with British ingredients, with a focus on the tandoor oven and sigri charcoal grill was an instant hit. Always packed with A-listers and foodies alike. This is the UK's first two-Michelin-starred Indian restaurant too.
How much? In addition to a la carte, there's a three-course lunch for £48 and a £110 tasting menu (£100 for vegetarian).
Trivet
Bermondsey - 36 Snowsfields, Bermondsey, London SE1 3SU
Trivet is a joint collaboration between chef Jonny Lake and master sommelier Isa Bal, both alumni of Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck. Here you can expect an informal take on fine dining with a truly epic wine list that covers the globe. The attached wine bar has a pared-down menu that's also worth trying out.
How much? It's an a la carte menu with mains in the £30-£50 bracket.
New one-starred restaurants
Mountain
Soho - 16-18 Beak St, London W1F 9RD
Tomos Parry is the man behind the uber-successful Brat and this is his just-as-successful Soho restaurant. Here Parry takes his influences from both Spain and Wales, with a big eye on local sourcing and both cheese and bread made in-house. Expect top sharing plates like lobster caldereta, grilled meats and some excellent small plates too.
How much: You could stick to a selection of small plates ranging in price between £5 and £20. But the big ticket items will bring your total bill up.
Restaurant 1890
Strand - The Savoy, Strand, London WC2R 0EU
This is Gordon Ramsay's third restaurant at The Savoy - he already runs The Savoy Grill and The River Room. It's a bijoux little restaurant (with room for just 26 diners) that pays homage to the iconic chef Georges Auguste Escoffier who came to work for The Savoy in - you guessed it - 1890.
How much? A shorter tasting menu at lunch is £75 - the longer one at dinner is £175.
Pavyllon
Mayfair - Four seasons, Hamilton Pl, London W1J 7DR
This sees top French chef Yannick Alleno, who has absolutely loads of Michelin stars to his name, in charge of the main restaurant and bar at The Four Seasons on Park Lane. This British version of Alleno's restaurant has a huge counter dining space where you can see the chefs putting the finishing touches to the chef's haute cuisine up close. The bar space also features a separate menu of sushi that's worth a look.
How much? Breakfast is a good entry-level time to come with eggs benedict costing just £22. But once you hit you lunch and dinner, the main tasting menu is £148. There's also a lunch in 55 minutes option for £55.50.
Dorian
Notting Hill - 105-107 Talbot Road, London W11 2AT
Notting Hill's Dorian comes from Chris D'Sylva, the man behind Notting Hill Fish + Meat Shop and has become a massive hit with reservations extremely hard to come by and a very A-list clientele to boot. It's billed as a British bistro and wine shop and has a top-class team behind it, particularly in chef Max Cohen, previously at Kitchen Table, Ikoyi and Frantzén.
Humo
Mayfair - 12 St George's Street, London W1S 2FB
Coming from the same group that opened Sumi and Endo at the Rotunda, this is a wood fire concept in Mayfair. Colombian-born chef Miller Prada leads the kitchen with a huge wood grill at the heart of the open kitchen, with the counter being the place to be, sitting in front of the most intricate grills you're likely to see. Look out for more fireworks on the very impressive cocktails.
How much? The set lunch starts at three courses for £58. There's also a six-step tasting menu for £108.
Akoko
Fitzrovia - 21 Berners Street, London W1T 3LP
Akoko, from Aji Akokomi, is centred around West African cuisine and they say their aim is to "pay homage to the country's culinary heritage by using recipes passed down through generations and traditional cooking techniques of smoking, curing and fermenting". Expect a mix of British ingredients and African spices throughout the menu.
How much? The three-course menu is £55 and the longer eight-course menu is £120.
Humble Chicken
Soho - 54 Frith St, Soho, London W1D 4SL
This is top chef Angelo Sato's solo Soho restaurant and while it started life as a restaurant that was all about chicken (hence the name), it's now changed into a much broader omakase affair that's described as serving a "Japanese-inspired 8-course tasting menu with a European accent." That said, you may see some chicken yakitori making an appearance in the tasting experience.
How much? The 12-course omakase for Saturday lunch is £95. Otherwise, it's a 16-course omakase offering for £145.
Aulis
Soho - 16 St Anne's Ct, London W1F 0BF
Hidden away in Soho is Simon Rogan's only London restaurant, a chef's table experience that fits in just 12 people per sitting. Everything is centred around the kitchen, so you're right in the thick of things. Here you can expect an ever-changing "farm to fork" tasting menu with a large amount of the produce sourced from Rogan's own Lake District farm.
How much: The tasting menu is £185
Ormer
Area - Flemings Mayfair, 7-12 Half Moon St, 7-12 Half Moon St, London W1J 7BH
The main restaurant inside the Flemings Mayfair hotel, Ormer is now run by Executive Chef Sofian Msetfi (previously at Adare Manor and The Hand and Flowers). It uses seasonal produce from the UK and also has its own kitchen garden in Essex. That's all used in a solely tasting menu experience (and they have vegetarian and vegan options too).
How much? The five-course tasting menu is £79, the seven-course menu £115
Chishuru
Fitzrovia - 3 Great Titchfield St., London W1W 8AX
After initial success in Brixton, Adejoké Bakare moved Chishuru to a bigger space in central London. In this two-floored space you'll find the same modern West African cuisine that proved such a hit at the original opening. Expect a regularly changing set menu with some truly innovative touches to West African dishes.
How much? It's £40 for lunch and £75 for dinner
Sushi Kanesaka
Mayfair - 45 Park Ln, London W1K 1PN
Already enjoying two Michelin stars at his Tokyo restaurant, chef Shinji Kanesaka created a stir with the opening of this incredibly luxe omakase restaurant at 45 Park Lane, not least because of the startling cost of the set menu. Given that he's one of the finest traditional Edomae sushi masters in Japan that price probably isn't surprising. With just 13 seats the diners are getting an incredibly intimate experience here.
How much? The omakase menu is £420
Plus this year's Bib Gourmands
The Michelin Bib Gourmands "highlight restaurants which offer good quality, good value cooking". Here are the new Bibs for 2023:
