Born in Yokohama, Endo is a a third-generation sushi master who came to London in 2006 as head chef of Zuma. Since then he's opened the highly rated Endo at The Rotunda which this year reopened with a new design and this also opened the rooftop restaurant Kioku by Endo at The OWO. He's agreed to share his favourite food and drink places from where he lives in Ealing with Hot Dinners readers.
Pitshanger Bakery
145 Northfield Ave, London W13 9QT
There are three Pitshanger bakeries in Ealing and they are all just as good. In the mornings, this is where I come to pick up a baguette and some croissants. Sometimes I get brownies as a special treat, they are the perfect density. Very chocolatey and satisfying.
Santa Maria Pizzeria
11 Bond St, London W5 5AP
This pizzeria has previously been voted London’s Best Pizza, and is still a favourite of mine. They now have a few other locations outside of Ealing but this is the original. The pizza is authentic Neapolitan, with a thin base and thick, chewy edges. I like simple, quality ingredients, so a Margherita pizza would be my go-to but sometimes I also like the Santa Caterina with tomato, mozzarella fiordilatte, salame Napoli, fresh chilli and parmesan.
Kolly Coffee
71-75 Uxbridge Rd, London W5 5SL
I really like coffee, especially iced. This is a nice little coffee shop with some great coffee and well-sourced ingredients. I get an iced latte when I go.
The Ealing Grocer
18 St Mary's Rd, London W5 5ES
This is a deli and grocery shop that opened during lockdown and has been hugely popular ever since. Here you can find anything from high-quality olive oil to fresh fruit and vegetables, pantry staples and more. I like their selection of farmhouse cheese, and their breakfast burger is incredibly delicious and generous.
Ealing Farmers' Market
Leeland Rd, London W13 9HH
I love going to the farmers' market and try to do so whenever I can. This farmers' market has a great local feel and there is always something new to look forward to each season. As in the restaurant, I like getting my produce straight from the producer and establishing a personal relationship.
