It's the dish that was created back in 1953 for the late Queen's coronation lunch. Now coronation chicken is a ubiquitous part of any summer buffet spread. For the upcoming Coronation festivities, we've done some digging to find out which restaurants are serving special twists on it this week.
Core's ‘Core-onation Chicken’

Clare Smyth's Notting Hill restaurant has a particularly pretty looking take on the dish. she describes it as "a cross between our favourite Sunday roast chicken and coronation chicken sandwiched between two delicate pieces of crispy chicken skin." Sounds heavenly.
Benares' roast coronation chicken

Chef Sameer Taneja’s version of the dish sees him roasting the chicken in spices before it's carved tableside and served with potato pickle, chard baby gem and gizzard salad, mango chutney, gravy, black dal and tandoori bread.
CORD Café's coronation chicken bun

Le Cordon Bleu is the place where coronation chicken was actually invented, so of course you'd expect them to have a play around with the OG recipe. The institute's CORD Café in Holborn has come up with a curried chicken breast bun with a second layer of lettuce, cucumber and baby watercress sandwiched between thick slices of brioche.
The Audley's coronation crab on toast

It's already a royal favourite, being the first place the King and Queen Consort dined together. Now down in the pub, they've got a cracking pub snack of coronation crab on toast on offer.
Nessa's coronation roast chicken

Chef Tom Cenci’s take on the classic dish is a half roast chicken in a sauce of apricots, golden raisins and toasted almonds, with curry scraps and vadouvan spice.
Heston's coronation chicken tart

On the royal dining menu at Dinner by Heston in Knightsbridge, you'll find a Coronation Chicken Tart complete with crispy chicken skin and coriander cress representing the reign of Elizabeth II, alongside other regal favourites like James II's veal sweetbread of George IV's Fillet of Beef Royale.
Le Bab's coronation chicken kebab

For the Coronation Weekend, Le Bab have put their own spin on coronation chicken with - of course - a kebab. Theirs uses British charcoal grilled, organic chicken and adds crisp iceberg lettuce, curry mayo and sultanas with pickled red chillies which is then served on a house-made pitta.
Mr Bao's coronation bao
Peckham, Tooting and Westfield
In celebration of the king’s coronation Mr Bao Peckham, Daddy Bao Tooting and Master Bao Westfield are putting on a £5 Coronation chicken bao made with Taiwanese-style fried chicken with curry seasoning and plum sauce along with plenty of curried mayonnaise.
The Lanesborough Grill’s coronation crab salad

This dish is actually on the menu all year round at the hotel which is just around the corner from the Coronation route. It's served up with a curry leaf and lime sabayon and is - we can attest - very, very good.
Kricket’s coronation poussin

Head to the Brixton, White City and Soho branches of Kricket in May for their regal dish of coronation poussin where the meat is marinated in ginger and garlic paste along with Madras curry powder before being oven roasted and served with Madras mayonnaise.
Costa's Coronation Toastie

You can't expect London's fast food spots not to get in on the coronation chicken action. Costa's got this toastie stuffed with roast chicken, coronation-spiced béchamel sauce, mango chutney, apricots and sultanas in coronation-spiced cheese-topped bread.
