Is it a sign of the times that a celebrity-backed vegan burger restaurant's former site in Soho has been taken over by a longstanding London independent group? Well, that's what has happened on Old Compton Street, where Lewis Hamilton-backed Neat Burger's old space is being turned into a Bleecker Burger.
Bleecker Founder Zan Kaufman is clear that she sees it as a milestone for herself, personally. "Opening on Old Compton Street is a full circle moment for me," she says. "Long before I ever came to London, I knew about Soho, its energy, its history, its role as a haven for LGBTQ+ people. When I arrived, it became the place where I first discovered a vibrant LGBTQ+ community that I could be a part of." It's also where she met her now wife.
For the few of you who haven't been into one of their burger joints, Bleecker use a 40-day aged beef from butcher Aubrey Allen for their amazing burgers. The menu is pretty simple - three types of cheeseburger, a bacon double option, a blue burger (topped with Saint Agur blue cheese) and a veggie option, the Symplicity burger. There are fries, house fries and angry fries and we'd always advocate that you try one of their shakes too. It's one of the best burgers in town so if you still haven't tried one, this is a must-visit.
