He may have recently left The Brave, but chef James Cochran hasn't left Islington. Instead, he's about to take over the food menu at Little Bat cocktail bar.
Little Bat is from the same people behind Callooh Callay and it's one of the very few cocktail bars in Islington, and also one of the most highly rated (we've been in recently and they do a great martini). Cochran's new menu for the bar is intended as a globally-inspired one, using British Isles produce. You'll also see some of his signature dishes here, like his crisp buttermilk fried chicken, served with jerk-spiced hot honey glaze. Also appearing will be:
- Warm toasted sourdough served a choice of either gravy or malt vinegar whipped butter
- Toasted truffle bread pudding, Isle of Mull cheese and Guinness
- Whitstable beer-battered oysters dressed with Bresaola ox sauce
- Jerk-spiced slow-braised shoulder of Mangalitza pork, Chanon beni chimichurri and sweetcorn
- Crisp potato dumplings with wild mushrooms and wild garlic sauce
- Cured and torched Cornish mackerel with hazelnut tahini, lardo and grapefruit
As for dessert, there will be an aged Berkswell Basque cheesecake with fermented grapes or chocolate mousse and cherries.
There will be a revamped drinks list launching at the same time, with drinks like a Loosen Mai Tai (Cuban rum, discarded banana rum, coconut) and a new wine list too.
So if you've wanted to try the chef's food and missed it at The Brave, this should be worth a look.
