Motcombs Tavern takes over at Pollen Street

motcombs tavern opening in mayfair on pollen street

The last year has seen a fair bit of upheaval over on Pollen Street. First Jason Atherton announced he was turning his Michelin-starred flagship restaurant into burger bar Mary's. That duly opened, with the promise of a full revamp this spring. The revamp didn't happen but what did happen was that Atherton ended up closing the restaurant altogether and selling it to another restaurant group, Motcombs.

Motcombs themselves have had a busy old year too. Just before Christmas they opened their first restaurant in 42 years, in St John's Wood. And two months ago they suddenly closed their original restaurant in Belgravia, which was a bit of a shock to regulars. At the time they promised they were looking for a new central London location, and now they've found it on Pollen Street.

The new all-day restaurant will be called Motcombs Tavern and will they say draw "from the historic Taverns of London & New York". The menu will be a mix of British and international dishes with Scottish beef "dry-aged in house" and lobster along with the usual Motcombs classics like their schnitzel and vodka penne.

There will be a separate bar serving up everything from cocktails and wine to a carefully poured pint of Guinness.

We haven't seen a full menu yet or heard much about what they're planning for the space itself, but we'll keep you all posted.
