If you've been to The Pembury Tavern, you might have come across Ace Pizza by Rachel Jones, where its been a hugely popular residency. Well, now she's getting her own place, just off Victoria Park.
Jones has developed her own style of pizza now dubbed "The London-style Pizza". It's designed to have "the chew and char of Neapolitan dough with the structure and foldability of a New York slice". The pizza is inspired by trips to her aunt in Italy and she originally launched Capish? at KERB before settling down with Ace.
As for what's on the new menu, her pizzas are 48-hour fermented and alongside a traditional margherita you can expect:
- Honey Pie - fior di latte, spicy salami, fennel seeds, guindilla chillies, and chilli honey
- Clapton Cowboy - a vegan pizza topped with plant-based Texas “beef,” jalapeños, pickled pink onions, and chipotle ranch drizzle.
- Vodka Marg - vodka sauce, housemade pesto, gran moravia (with optional pepperoni)
Those will be backed up by pizza sandwiches, slow-cooked Dexter beef meatballs in marinara sauce and Caesar salad. The menu will also feature soft serve for dessert, with changing flavours and topppings. Drinks will include Chilli Honey Margaritas with Five Points Brewery providing the beer.
As for the location, it takes over from Fish House on Lauriston Road, and the new look will apparently pay homage to 80s nostalgia, aiming to combine "Mid-Century Modern style with a classic disco diner". We think this will be a big hit with both locals and park visitors alike.
