When we heard that the family who own the London and New York branches of Le Relais de Venise l’Entrecôte were opening a new restaurant in London, you can be sure we sat up and took notice. Romeo San sees the Elghanayan family branching out into Japanese food, with a temaki bar in Marylebone.
"Our handrolls are made with the finest ingredients," says founder Yasmine Elghanayan. "The dining experience is designed to be effortless - offering luxury without the wait." As for those ingredients they're using caviar from N25, fish from Notting Hill Fish Shop, and freshly grated truffles from London's self-styled truffle queen Meera Courtesi.
They've certainly got the groundwork right with the people they've brought in; Head Chef Rodrigo Alonso is ex-Sushi Atelier and you might recognise GM Roxy Voinea from Dorian.
As for the space, there will be just 25 seats up at the counter and, similarly to Le Relais, it's a walk-in only affair with no bookings. If you don't fancy the wait you can always order some of their DIY handroll kits to make up at home.
Given how crazily popular the London branches of Le Relais are, they'll be hoping for similar success (and queues) here.
