Paddy Wok is Deptford's new Irish spice bag residency

Perfectly timed to coincide with St Patrick's Day, London is about to experience the true culinary delights of the spice bag, courtesy of Paddy Wok. For those of you who've not been lucky enough to try one before, the Irish spice bag is a mixture of chips, crispy chicken, peppers and onion coated in a mixture of Chinese spice and chilli.

The man behind this is Cathal Farrelly who moved to London for university. "One of the first things I noticed was that there was no decent Irish-style Chinese takeaway anywhere in the city," he told Hot Dinners. "It had always been an idea in the back of my mind, but when I saw spice bags and Irish-Chinese cuisine gaining international hype."

"London has a huge Irish community, but somehow, a proper Irish-Chinese takeaway never existed here. With the food scene constantly evolving and people always looking for the next big thing, it’s the perfect time to introduce Paddy Wok to the city."

He's opening at The Artworks Creekside, where although Paddy Wok is a takeaway affair "it does operate in a shared space which has plenty of outdoor seating and indoor seating."

They're not the first to hit the market. We've reported before on Scaldy, a spice bag residency that's currently operating from Feeney's pub in the City. But they do appear to be the first to offer the spice bag sidequests of the 3-in-1 and 4-in-1, which as far as we can tell seem to be a mix of chicken, curry sauce, rice AND chips. Sounds like heaven.
