They're currently No 43 on the Best Pizzas in Europe list (excluding Italy), and now Peckaham's 081 are expanding. They're about to open their second pizzeria, this time in Shoreditch. Taking over the old Iron Bloom spot on Eastern Street will give them a bigger, more central restaurant.
If you haven't been down to Peckham to try them yet, then here's some intel about them. The man behind 081 is Andrea Ascuiti. He was born in Naples (so he should know a thing or two about pizza) and he started 081 as a car park pop-up before opening his first restaurant in 2023. As for those pizzas, the bases are made from 72-hour fermented dough and Andrea imports all the key ingredients directly from Italy. That said, he does put a bit of a twist on his offerings so the menu will include options like:
- Tunarella - yellow cherry tomatoes, fior di latte mozzarella, red onions, black olive dust, and tuna fillets
- Meatballs and Ricotta Stuffed Crust - with a cooked tomato sauce base
- Pulled Genovese - slow-cooked pulled beef brisket and ribs with a Genovese ragu.
- Black Truffle and Honey - gorgonzola, fresh shaved black truffle, and hazelnut crumble
In addition to the main event, there are also Napoli style 'tapas' and an all-Italian wine and cocktail list. The new space will have room for 60 people to dine in, so it'll be a handy spot to hit up in Shoreditch if you're craving good pizza.
