9/4/25 - updated with new pics and an opening date
You may have spotted videos on your social (or maybe it's just our algorithm) of a rise in London pubs offering proper sing songs, whether that's trad Irish tunes or music with a broader appeal. Now it's Southwark's turn as the team behind Mc & Sons in Borough and Vauxhall are opening their very first singing pub in Southwark.
Molly Mc's is named after the family's grandmother and they've gone all out with the pub's decoration, featuring her personal letters and memorabilia. On the drinks front, they're serving up a cocktail list based on Irish spirits, like their Old Fashioned with Jameson Black Barrel Whiskey, Angostura bitters and maraschino cherry.
The food menu that features that most authentic of Irish offerings, Thai food (dishes like popcorn lemongrass chicken and sticky tamarind duck). However, that will also be used in the must-have dish in any new Irish opening - the spice bag. Here, that features spiced fries, crispy popcorn chicken and hot peppers.
Where the pub really comes into its own will be their take on karaoke rooms. The three ‘shebeen’-style singing rooms can be pre-booked for groups for singing whatever music they like along with two private snugs. There will also be trad music sessions out in the main pub too.
You'll find us in the snug when it opens, nursing a Jameson, preparing to belt out The Fields of Athenry.
