He already has two more Italian restaurants in Soho named after the street they're in, so when restaurateur Nima Safaei came around to giving his latest opening a moniker he stayed true to form, naming it after its address on Compton Street. But while this new restaurant may share a naming convention with its sibling restaurants, it's going to be quite a different beast.
The new spot is focusing on quick pasta - think of this as the perfect Soho pitstop for a bowl of pasta and a glass of wine, whether that's pre-theatre, post club or just in the middle of the day. Tavola Calda is the name of the game - think high tables (or the odd booth) with some freshly made pasta.
On the launch menu will be dishes like:
- Rigatoni amatriciana with pancetta and chillies
- Pumpkin, ricotta and sage ravioli
- Gnocchi with cavolo nero and pesto
- Pea risotto with broad beans and asparagus
To go with this there will be plenty of Italian wines by the glass along with some special Italian-accented cocktails.
27 Old Compton Street will only have room for 30 diners - so it's pretty small - and walk-ins only. So if you're after a handy, walk-in place when you haven't been organised enough to book somewhere this is going to be very useful.
