One of Stratford's most popular restaurants, Darkhorse, now has a sibling. Modern European wine bar and restaurant Templar has opened in Stratford Cross, one of the area's newer developments. It's all part of what they're calling Stratford's new "cultural hub" with Sadlers Wells and the V&A also opening there.
Heading up the restaurant is chef Richard Sinclair, who was previously at Lardo and Pied a Terre. He's put together a menu of small plates and sharing dishes that include:
- Pig’s head croquette, fennel and Muscat grape salad
- 12-hour BBQ lamb shoulder cooked over charcoal and served with hispi cabbage and red wine jus
- Chargrilled monkfish tail, white wine sauce, sea herbs and pickled mushrooms
- Yorkshire forced rhubarb, yoghurt mousse, gingerbread biscuit
- Hot chocolate fondant, pistachio, banana, vanilla ice cream
As for the wines, it's a fully European list starting at a pretty reasonable £28 a bottle. There are cocktails too, including an olive oil and sea salt martini as well as a salted caramel espresso martini.
Darkhorse has been pretty well-rated over the years, so this all sounds like a promising addition to the area.
