Back at the beginning of 2025, we brought you news that Big Mamma were getting ready to open in the City. Since then, they've opened Barbarella in Canary Wharf, but now we're finally getting news about what their City plans are going to be.
The next Big Mamma restaurant will be called Edmondo, a restaurant that's set to be inspired by, in their words, "1930s Milanese glamour". There is already an Edmondo by Big Mamma in Hamburg, but they have said that the London restaurant will only share the name and be a very different affair.
What it is going to be is one of Big Mamma's larger restaurants, with space for 200 people, split across several rooms. Those include the big bar at the centre of things as well as a large kitchen counter. And, as it's in the City, where folk do like a PDR, there are three private rooms here. La Liberia is covered with Enzo Ferrari memorabilia (including a racing suit worn by the man himself), Il Salotto is an English timber-clad room if you want something more classic, and there's Il Ridotto, which is a more "intimate" affair. Generally speaking, expect the overall look to be wholly unrestrained.
As for the menu, they'll be having their usual extravagant approach to Italian food, with new takes on Cornish crab and turbot planned. There will be a "towering" XL focaccia (Big Mamma love their XL dishes), Gnocchi al Gorgonzola from Lombardia, and Edmondo will also have the group's biggest steak selection, from T-Bone to tagliata, provided by the great Cornish butcher Philip Warren and "finished in Edmondo’s signature spice crust". On the dessert front, there will be a huge Italian chocolate cake with a melting centre and "an elevated take on the classic affogato". New cocktails for this menu include house barrel-aged boulevardiers.
Big Mamma always does very well wherever it opens, and Bank seems to be a very good choice for them in the City (nearby The Ned is always busy). Come the winter this will be the City place to book.
