It feels like there has been a flurry of closures in recent weeks and here comes another (but it's not all bad news).
Hill & Szrok on Broadway Market have announced that they're finishing up as a restaurant after 11 years of service. If you're unfamiliar with them, they operated as a butcher during the day and in the evening switched gears to become a restaurant, using meat from the butcher. It's long been regarded as one of the best restaurants in the area, so its closure will be something of a blow to locals.
It was announced at the very end of last year, but the news seemed to get largely missed at the time. Posting on Instagram, they said "The challenges of staffing in recent years have been tough, and with no signs of change, now feels like the right time to close this chapter and focus on growing the butcher shop to even greater heights."
But, not all is lost as the retail side of things will remain open as before, so you'll still be able to shop in one of Hackney's best butchers.
