The Science Museum launches its own science experimental afternoon tea

science museum afternoon tea

There are a lot of places offering afternoon tea in London - just take a look at our guide for some of the best. All of which makes it hard for a restaurant or cafe to make theirs stand out. But we think the patisserie chefs at the Science Museum have done just that. The museum has just launched its first-ever afternoon tea and it's a wholly interactive affair (for kids at least).

The children's tea includes the usual finger sandwiches and scones, but after that things get interesting. The elemental cupcake comes with a test tube rack of tubes filled with toppings like chocolate popping candy; crushed coloured moon rocks and edible soil along with a syringe of 'blood' frosting so they can decorate the cake to their exact preference. Even better, the drink side of things is a 6th element pink lemonade. For this, they're given two beakers and test tubes of acidic lemon juice and baking soda to combine so they can watch the reaction form carbon dioxide bubbles and add fizz to their lemonade.

Adults, sadly, don't get their own science experiment with their tea. But they do get treats like Earl Grey tea-soaked sultana scones, a petri dish jelly and solar system cupcake as part of their spread.

All in all, it does sound like a fabulously family-friendly place to go for tea.
