Marta pizzeria in Chelsea is all about thin Roman-style pizzas

Roman pizzas come to Chelsea from Marta

In the run-up to the end of last year, we were so focused on the recent openings of Alley Cats and Zia Lucia in Chelsea that we missed another very promising new Chelsea pizza opening, called Marta.

It opened on Fulham Road (taking over the space from L'Artigiano) and it shifts away from the predominant Neapolitan focus of many London pizzerias and instead is all about Roman pizzas. Those are large, traditional hand-rolled (using a traditional Mattarello rolling pin), thin and crispy pizzas, baked in a wood oven. The pizza toppings stick to the classic, so expect a Bufala, and a Margherita alongside specials like their Crostino Cotto with tomato, mozzarella, prosciutto cotto and basil or the Salsiccia with Italian pork sausage, Gorgonzola, mozzarella and radicchio.

On top of that, there are extras like the Focaccio di Marta, which features two of their thin, crispy layers filled with Stracchino cheese and truffle honey.

Word since opening in late November has been consistently strong, so if you're looking for something new in London's pizza scene, this should be worth seeking out.
