Indian restaurateur Gobind Chona's first London restaurant Gura Gura must have been a hit because he's getting ready to open his second quite close by.
Oorja is opening on Shaftesbury Avenue (next to the McDonald's that's been there for an age) and it's being billed as a casual Indian restaurant based on Northern Indian cuisine. A taste of that menu includes:
- BBQ Butterfly Chicken - Indian-style fire spatchcock chicken marinated in BBQ sauce, fenugreek and cream cheese
- Railway Lamb Curry - lamb leg with aromatic black cardamon, mace & onion-base sauce.
- Chickpeas Masala, with overnight tea-soaked Kabuli chickpeas cooked with dry mango, pomegranate, and onion gravy.
- Gulab Jamun Brûlée - House-made sweet Gulab Jamuns served with French crème brûlée
It'll also be serving up breakfast, the first time one of Chona's restaurants has done this, either in India or London. For that, they'll have dishes like egg burji on toast (three eggs, spiced and scrambled, served on sourdough) while a Sunday lunch also tries things a little differently with a tandoori spiced roast beef with garam masala beef gravy.
