Almost a decade after launching their Russian street food restaurant in Soho, the team behind Zima have now opened a second restaurant, this time in Notting Hill. In December, they took over the old Buvette site on Blenheim Crescent and have kept the format of the restaurant pretty much the same, with counter dining at the front opening up to a bigger dining room at the rear.
If you haven't made it to the original Soho spot then what you need to know is that the restaurant's menu focuses on a mix of Russian and Eastern European dishes - so think borsch, chicken Kyiv and pelmeni dumplings.
As you might expect from a restaurant with roots in Eastern Europe, vodka is a bit of a thing here. But for those of you swerving alcohol there's also plenty in the way of soft options available from berry tea, raf coffee and homemade sodas. They're also promising a range of seasonal specials that'll be exclusive to the Notting Hill branch.
The opening of the Notting Hill restaurant ended a turbulent year for Zima who lost their Executive Chef Alexei Zimin, an outspoken critic of Putin, when he was found dead whilst travelling in Serbia in November.
