They opened their first place in Balham earlier this year and now the team behind Oybar have just opened a second bar, in Wimbledon.
It's taken over what was once an O Neill's pub, which seems like a significant upgrade for Wimbledon. As with the original opening, the name gives away what they're all about - a wine bar with a focus on oysters. You can have those, individually, baked as Oysters Rockefeller, or as part of a selection of seafood platters. The menu is fairly seafood-focused, with mussels and smoked salmon available. That said, even if oysters aren't your thing dishes like snails and beef bourguignon are on offer.
As for the wines, there's a primarily European list with plenty of tasting notes so you can either try something familiar or use the notes for a bit of experimentation. The bottles are all in three price points of either £35, £45 or £65 - which is all pretty good value.
Given how swiftly these first two have opened, we wouldn't be surprised to see more Oybars on the way.
