It's all change for Applebee’s in Borough Market with an ex-Jason Atherton chef on board

applebees redesign borough market

One of Borough Market's oldest restaurants has decided to celebrate its 25th birthday with a major shake-up. Applebee's has been in the market since it first started selling seafood back in 1998 before expanding to be a restaurant too. Now Jack Applebee and his two brothers are planning a big relaunch for the restaurant next year.

They've started strong with the appointment of a new Executive Chef, Frankie van Loo, who's spent the last 13 years at Jason Atherton’s Social Company restaurant group. Frankie notably spent 13 years at the group, most recently as Head Chef of City Social. He'll be presiding over a new look menu which keeps the focus on British seafood from Brixham Fish Market with sample dishes including:

  • Brown crab rarebit
  • Grilled Dover sole with brown shrimp and an elevated Applebee’s fish & chips.
  • Salmon en croute
  • Whole roasted turbot with market greens

The restaurant's design will also get a major makeover from design studio A-nrd which has worked with restaurants like Fonda and the Kudu collection. A fresh fish counter will be the first thing guests see when they come in, there will be counter bar seats overlooking the live fire grill and the restaurant's outside space will get a makeover too.
