If you've been up to Muswell Hill recently you might have spotted the queues outside artisan bakery Boulangerie Pierre Alix. We joined the patisserie-loving hordes one weekend and were blown away by how good their cakes (and bread) were. So it's good news all round for North London carb addicts as the baker is about to open his second place.
The doors to the next bakery are about to be flung open on the lower part of Holloway Road, just north of Highbury Corner. Billed as a French café-boulangerie experience you'll be able to grab and go or use this as a place to sit down and enjoy coffee and cakes with friends. On offer, you'll find treats like canelés, pistachio pain Suisse and Chausson aux pommes along with a range of great loaves.
The man behind it is baker Pierre Alix, who comes from Normandy. Since opening his first place he's been hand-crafting everything the bakery sells on site. "This new location on Holloway Road," he says, "is a place where our neighbours can experience the quality and authenticity we’re known for in a relaxed, cosy café setting. It’s more than a bakery; it’s a community space.”
