It may not be the optimum time of year in London to be unveiling a new rooftop bar, but that's not stopping the folks at the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair. They're about to throw open the doors to the Abar Rooftop at their hotel just off Hanover Square.
The new bar boasts views across Mayfair, an area not all that blessed with good rooftop drinking spaces, and there'll be room for 50 indoors along with a large outdoor terrace.
As with the hotel's other food and drink spaces, this is being run by chef Akira Back and his team. The seasonally changing cocktail menu will serve up drinks like:
- Artichoke Thyme - a take on the Old Fashioned with roasted artichoke-infused Whistle Pig 10 Years Old whiskey, Cynar, garlic oil and thyme essence
- Fig & Yuzu - think White Negroni but with fig-infused Mancino Bianco vermouth, Rinomato Americano Bianco, London No. 3 gin and Yuzushu
- Grapefruit & Jasmine - a pairing of Roku gin with The Lost Explorer mezcal Espadin, jasmine liqueur, and grapefruit soda
To go with the drinks there's also going to be a proper bar menu. At lunchtime you'll be able to get a miso niçoise salad or wagyu burger and in the evenings that'll change up to sushi tacos alongside Back's new style sashimi and caviar.
