If you've never thought about putting shepherd's pie or fish and chips in a taco, then you just aren't thinking out of the box enough. Because that's what's going to be on offer when US taco chain Velvet Tacos comes to London. They've picked the UK as the first country to open outside of America.
If, like us, you hadn't heard of the company before, their USP is making tacos with "globally inspired flavours". That translates on the plate to options like the following:
- Fish ’n Chips - beer-battered cod, curry aioli, french fries, malt vinegar and napa slaw
- Korean fried rice - slow-roasted pulled pork, gochujang egg fried rice, red chile aioli
- Spicy tikka chicken - chicken tenders, spicy tikka sauce, buttered cilantro basmati rice, raita crema
It's fair to say authenticity isn't high on the agenda here, but honestly, we'd certainly have a go at those. And there's a regularly changing WTF option too which in the past has featured - wait for it - a shepherd's pie taco.
The London restaurant will also have a separate bar serving up the palomas, sangritas (as the name suggests, this is a mix of sangria and margaritas) and their signature Kiss Ass Margarita made with Lunazul premium blanco tequila and orange liqueur.
