23/10/24 - updated with the opening date
It would have been hard to believe it could happen less than a decade ago, but these days London has some really great Mexican restaurants.
One of the restaurants that really helped to kick all this off is Santo Remedio, which first opened back in 2016 in Shoreditch. Run by Edson and Natalie Diaz-Fuentes it brought an authentic taste of Mexico to London. They soon moved that restaurant to London Bridge, later returning to Shoreditch with a second place, Santo Remedio Café.
Now the third Santo Remedio is on the way, this time to Marylebone, taking over the space that was once Xier. With both Kol and Cavita already in Marylebone, it's becoming quite the centre of Mexican excellence in London.
Full details have yet to be revealed as to what to expect from the third restaurant, but we'll assume it'll share a fair bit of the menu from the earlier places. So you'll find their fantastic guacamole (with added grasshoppers if you fancy) alongside pork belly, Baja-style fish or soft shell crab tacos. Given that the new restaurant is around the same size as the London Bridge site, we'd expect some of their larger dishes like bone-in short rib and hibiscus enchiladas to appear on the menu here too. Their bottomless brunches are also excellent.
We'll have more news on that menu and more closer to the opening date.
