London loves a fresh pasta restaurant and this new opening on Tottenham Court Road looks worth keeping an eye on. Pastino comes from Franco Manca alumnus Ahmos Wasif and it's been inspired by his trips to Italy and a desire to bring traditional Neapolitan, Sicilian and Roman pasta to London, with an emphasis on value.
It also leans towards more of a fast-food meets fresh pasta operation than we've seen in London before. You'll be placing orders by kiosks, the pasta will then be prepared fresh for you and you can either dine in or take away. They'll also have a loyalty card to stamp (six stamps gets you a free pasta dish).
There will be four pastas to choose from - rigatoni, spaghetti, casarecce or macaroni. On top of that, sauces to choose from include classic carbonara, zozzono (a Roman combo of carbonara and amatriciana), slowed-cooked beef ragu or tiger prawns in a bisque sauce. They'll also have stuffed pasta, salads, arancini and classic Italian desserts.
We've had a lot of fresh pasta restaurants opening in London over the past few years, but this one does sound like it's trying something new.
