Dishoom has changed its menu - here's what to expect

They remain some of the most popular restaurants in London (and further afield) and now, 14 years after opening, Dishoom is completely overhauling its menu. Founders Shamil and Kavi Thakrar along with Executive Chef Arun Tilak have apparently been "exploring the streets of Bombay, sampling over 650 dishes" to research the overhaul and it's now running in all of their restaurants.

Here's a taste of some of the new dishes:

  • Fish Amritsari -  Flaky white fish marinated in spices then deep-fried, served with a green chutney
  • Makhmali Paneer - Marinated in yoghurt, and a special Punjabi masala of coriander, carom seeds, and cumin seeds.
  • Chicken Kathi Roll - Dishoom has combined a kathi roll with Mumbai’s version of a roll, called the Baida roll
  • Chicken and Mango Salad - Malai chicken with fresh mangoes, salad leaves, broccoli, with a homemade mango chutney dressing.
  • Goan Monkfish Curry - Monkfish cooked with onions, tomatoes and creamy coconut, with spices, curry leaves and Kokum tamarind.
  • Coconutty Fruit Crumble - A mix of coconut, jaggery and toasted nuts between stewed fresh apple and crumble. Topped with a scoop of coconut ice cream.
  • Orange Caramel Custard - Parsi Persian pudding of egg custard. Orange-flavoured custard served with Terry Chocolate Orange.

The big hits will still be there, of course, and they've also introduced specials that will only be available in certain restaurants. So there will be Methi Lamb Gosht and Paratha at Carnaby, and Rara Gosht & Roomali Roti at Shoreditch (and Birmingham).

On top of all that, there will be a completely new cocktail menu, adding 23 new drinks (including five non-alcoholic cocktails). Those will include drinks like the Monsoon Sesame Espresso Martini (Monsoon Catuai espresso, Finalndia vodka, molasses bitters, chai syrup, white sesame tincture and black sesame).

So, if you've been thinking about a return trip to Dishoom - now is definitely the time.
