Godet wine-focused pub comes to Islington from the Binch team

The SeveneyThe new look frontage of Godet

23/10/24 - updated with more details on the opening.

Binch wine bar in Hackney has been a local favourite since opening back in 2021. Opened by Frenchman Sylvain Bertozzi the small bar and bottle shop is certainly one of the best wine bars in East London. Now news reaches us that Bertozzi is looking to expand to nearby North London, opening a bar on Essex Road.

Taking over what was once The Seveney pub will be Godet (that's French slang for "a glass"), it was originally pitched as a wine-focused pub, but beer will now be a big offering too. They'll have nine taps, all with craft beers from across the UK and regular tap takeovers.

Binch are, of course, best known for wine so that will continue over to the pub. They'll mainly focus on French and European wines, and they'll be hosting tastings and winemakers events.

As for the food, from Wednesday to Saturday, they'll be offering smash burgers from Perk’d Up Burger, who will also have cheese and charcuterie boards. On Sundays, The Ingredientist Kitchen takes over for a Sunday roast featuring Galician beef, native breed free-range Dorset pork and more.

London's all about listening bars right now, and Godet is following that trend too as they'll also have a vinyl hi-fi area with DJs playing a "laid-back" set from Wednesday to Sunday. Expect the layout inside to be broadly similar to the pub, but with a completely new paint job. It'll fit 40 inside, with room for 20 more in their beer garden.

Given the big hit that nearby Goodbye Horses has been, there's a real market for exactly this type of venue in Islington and we can see this being very popular.
