Almost two decades after it first opened its doors inside the Dorchester, the celebrity magnet China Tang has branched out. It's just opened a dim sum counter over at Harrods and if you're after some very beautiful dumplings, this looks like a place to try.
If you haven't been to the original restaurant, that made a name for itself by serving up high end versions of classic Cantonese dishes and was the brainchild of the late Sir David Tang.
You'll find China Tang's sibling restaurant in the Knightsbridge department store's Dining Hall on the ground floor. We've had a sneak peek at the launch menu and there's a lot on there we'd like to have a crack at, including:
- Scallop dumplings topped with caviar
- Truffle and shiitake mushroom bao
- Iberico pork xiao long bao
- Wagyu taro puffs
The menu also includes larger dishes like Peking Duck, salt and pepper prawns and the priciest dish on offer is the Stir-Fried Fillet of A5 Wagyu in Black Pepper (one of the original restaurant's signature dishes) which comes in at £168. If you're after a pot of Iron Goddess tea (or prefer a tea-based cocktail) those are both on offer too.
Given how many A-listers love the OG China Tang it'll be interesting to see if any are spotted enjoying the dumplings at the Harrods version too.
