Abuelo have opened a new Aussie coffee shop off Oxford Circus

abuelo cavendish place

Six years after they opened, bringing a mix of Aussie and Latin American influences to London's cafe scene, Abuelo have expanded with a second cafe. Their latest opening is in Marylebone, just off Oxford Circus making it a very handy pitstop to know about if you're up in the West End working or shopping.

If you haven't been to the OG Covent Garden cafe, then here's a bit about them. It's run by mother and daughter team Lynette and Cloe de la Vega. Lynette's background is in designing cafes and restaurants. Her 1980s restaurant group Zigolini's were at the forefront of the modern Australian coffee scene and - this is a big one - she lays claim to having the Babyccino. Her daughter Cloe ran a successful street food business in Australia before joining forces with her mum to open Abuelo in London back in 2018.

Now rather under the radar the duo have opened their follow-up cafe. And if you're after an aesthetic coffee experience in central London this looks to be right up your street.

We haven't seen the menu at the new place but if it follows the pattern of their original it'll feature brunch dishes and sandwiches like:

  • Green pea fritter and poached egg with avocado, chilli salsa, mint and peashoots
  • Banana Bread with vanilla ricotta, Happy Bee farm honeycomb and toasted coconut
  • Kim chi with heritage tomatoes, semi dried tomatoes and smoked almonds on ciabatta

Expect this place to be all over your Insta feed once it gets discovered by everyone else.
