Hereford Road closes after 17 years

Hereford Road is the latest London restaurant closure

It's been a particularly harsh summer for London's restaurants with a number of prominent closures and now there's news of another one. After 17 Years, Hereford Road in Westbourne Grove has closed down.

The restaurant was set up by Tom Pemberton, a former head chef of St. John Bread and Wine. Much like St John, British cooking was at the forefront here, with recent dishes on the menu including roast guinea fowl with mushrooms and wild garlic. It was also notable for having one of the best set-menu deals in London, with three courses coming in at under £20.

Soon after opening, Matthew Norman said in The Guardian that it was a "cracking neighbourhood joint in which the highly talented owner-chef Tom Pemberton, formerly of St John Bread & Wine, serves proper, gutsy, richly flavourful food in big portions, but does so at prices that hint more at a labour of love than any desire to get rich quick." It seems like that attitude continued for 17 years.

No reason has been given for the closure at this time.
