He's recently had a big success with his latest opening Bruno in Victoria Park, but after ten years Michael Sager has decided to call it a day on his Sager + Wilde restaurant in Bethnal Green.
It opened back in 2015 on Paradise Row and while a few restaurants had difficulty in that area during that time, Sager + Wilde had shown real staying power. It was originally called Mission and had a Californian theme but there was a bit of a rights tussle for that name so it was eventually re-launched as the second Sager + Wilde.
The restaurant shifted into a local and seasonal approach to the menu, most recently led by head chef (and Murphia Listee) Diarmuid Goodwin. He left the restaurant about two weeks ago and is definitely going to be someone to watch.
The original Sager + Wilde wine bar is, of course still going strong as is Sager's cocktail bar Equal Parts. We can also strongly recommend a visit to Bruno (and it's worth keeping a look out for the guest chefs there).
