There's no question that Dorian is one of London's hottest restaurants - getting a table at a decent time in the dining room is a near-impossible task if you don't plan your dinners months ahead. Now the owner behind that, Chris D'Sylva, is getting ready to open a second restaurant in nearby Holland Park.
Urchin is going to be a Japanese bistro. As D'Sylva explained in an interview with trade title Caterer it won't compete with his other restaurant Supermarket of Dreams. "Sushi is only a fraction of Japanese food, so I’m going to 'Japanesify’ Dorian. Whole fish, big steaks with Japanese sauces and flavours."
As you can imagine, getting a table when Urchin opens is also going to be pretty hard. So we're bringing you news of how to get bragging rights on being the first to try it. The only problem is you have to fly to Greece to do so. That's because Urchin is popping up for the summer on the Greek island of Sifnos. It's taking over the roof terrace at the Pelicanos restaurant on the island of Sifnos.
The 10-seater, 10-course omakase is going to apply "Japanese technique and flavours to the magical, locally grown and sourced produce from the verdant land, turquoise waters and surrounding islands.
Dishes on the launch menu include
- Snake cucumber, tuna tare tare and urchin
- Wild seabass sashimi and olive sake sauce
- Cold watermelon dashi soup
- Robata Sifnian lamb on olive coal and cherry miso
Combining a summer holiday with previewing one of London's upcoming restaurants sounds like a fun thing to do. Now, how much are flights to Sifnos....
