Boxpark Shoreditch faces closure - but has started a campaign to survive

Boxpark Shoreditch is to close

Update 26/7/24

The NTIA (Night Time Industries Association) has now launched a campaign to save Boxpark Shoreditch from redevelopment. "We are calling on Hackney Council to review their decision and offer a reprieve," said a spokesman. "The decision as it stands will likely lead to the site being left derelict for a minimum of six months and potentially years to come while awaiting development.

This vibrant community hub which has helped to launch countless micro businesses and spread the street food revolution across the capital will become an empty eyesore attracting anti social behaviour. This doesn’t need to happen, we would encourage all involved to reconsider and protect the businesses and support the people and communities who hold this place dear to them.”

Original story follows

After nearly 13 years (it opened in October 2011), the original Boxpark in Shoreditch is to close. The site just outside Shoreditch High Street station was a pioneering "container village" in London, creating a mini food and shopping district by parking a series of shipping containers together. Since then, Boxpark has expanded all over London, with its Croydon and Wembley outposts always making an appearance on TV during sporting events (usually in line with goals/beer throwing).

The closure was almost announced a few weeks ago, but they were working at a last-minute reprieve which didn't work out.

There are more Boxparks to come, however. They've confirmed that Buck Street Market will become Boxpark Camden this autumn, and the long-promised brand-new Liverpool Street site (called Boxhall) will also be opening before the end of the year. There are also Bristol and Liverpool sites to come.

If you're a fan of the Shoreditch location, then you have until the end of the Summer to enjoy it.
