Burnt Ends ends its plans to open at Harrods in London

burnt ends isn't opening at harrods after all

A bit of bad news for London foodies today. Over a year ago we reported that Singapore's Michelin-starred restaurant Burnt Ends was going to be opening in Harrods. Now that dream is over. In a post put up yesterday on the restaurant's Instagram page, they announced that limitatations presented by the store's building meant that it just wasn't going to happen.

"Despite our best efforts over the past year we couldn't overcome the challenges of installing our 4-tonne wood burning ovens and grills in the historic Grade II listed building. As a result we've mutually ended our partnership."

In a more detailed statement published by Singaporean food blogger Brian Kennett they added: "The intricate nature of this iconic structure presented obstacles that could not be overcome without compromising its integrity."

Harrods also issued a release on the subject this morning, saying: "For over a year, Harrods and Dave Pynt have been working closely to bring his celebrated Burnt Ends concept to London. Despite working tirelessly to bring Burnt Ends pioneering open fire and barbeque vision inside Harrods to fruition, it has ultimately proved too challenging within Harrods historic Grade II listed building. Being unable to overcome these physical challenges, it is regrettable that the partnership has come to an end. We wish Dave and the entire team at Burnt Ends the very best. "

It's a blow to London fans of the original who were looking forward to chef Dave Pynt once more serving up his wood-fired food to Londoners. Chefs including Clove Club's Isaac McHale and Lee Westcott expressed their sadness that it hadn't worked out. Here's hoping that Dave finds another London site that suits him better.
