A few weeks back a Hot Dinners reader alerted us to an interview with chef Alex Jackson on the Go To Food podcast. Turns out the chef who's been helming at Noble Rot Soho for the past four years was about to make a move.
"I'm going to go and cook at Leila's Shop in Shoreditch, in her cafe." he told the podcast. "Leila's have this food shop that's been there for like 25 years and when she opened the shop it was meant to be like the shop on a council estate that was [about] accessiblility of food and affordability of food for people who lived on the estate.
"It's the best food shop I know in London," he goes on to say. "The cafe is an extension of the shop and there's no wastage in the shop because all the gluts of veg go to the cafe. [Leila] wants to keep it affordable because it's about the community...I'm not going to cook loads of posh stuff."
The move was confirmed today in an email sent out by Noble Rot who said they were sad to announce he was leaving but that for Alex the promise of moving to Shoreditch was "a much needed change of pace".
