It's not often we get to write about new Greenwich restaurants, but upcoming neighbourhood restaurant Highroad Social sounds very promising.
It comes from David O'Brien who used to be the development director at Caprice Holdings, so we're going to assume he knows a thing or two about restaurants. Heading up the kitchen will be Head Chef Fionnan Flood, last seen at The Chelsea Pig and who, as an Irish chef in London has also appeared on our Murphia list.
Fionnan's menu will be "inspired by his grandmother’s love for cooking" and it will have a big focus on premium local ingredients.
There will be a separate raw bar menu, with seafood including Scottish scallops, Carlingford oysters, and Cornish crabs. It's not all seafood, though, as the raw menu also features raw Hereford beef on toast with smoked crème fraiche and cured egg yolk. As for the rest of the menu, that includes:
- Glamorgan pork croquette with toffee apple sauce
- Barbecued razor clams with baked garlic and lemon sauce
- Braised ox tongue, beef cheek, bone broth with house pickles, pistachio
- Shallot tarte tatin with British ricotta and thyme
The restaurant takes over from Rivington Greenwich, with the dining room being given a complete overhaul, and we're told to expect an influence from "modern Georgian Townhouses peppered with tropical elements".
The bar also sounds good, with Clark Crown (ex-Palomar) heading it up. His drinks include the "Olive" - a twist on a martini, blending 58 & Co olive oil vodka with Knightor Cornish dry vermouth and celery bitters. There will also be a wine list focused on smaller, independent vineyards and beers from the local brewery, Coalition.
