There's no getting away from the fact that, so far, it has been a dismal summer. And there's one activity that the poor weather is guaranteed to mess with which is the great British picnic. Luckily for us, the supermarket giant Sainsbury's has come up with a wheeze that for one weekend at least means Londoners will be able to picnic without worrying about rain stopping the fun.
They're putting up a giant picnic pavilion in the heart of Covent Garden on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 June. Anyone can book a 90-minute picnic 'experience' but the real selling point is that for just £5 per group of up to six people you'lll get a veggie or mixed picnic basket to enjoy that's worth £55.
The basket contains treats from the supermarket's Taste The Difference range including the All Day Breakfast Scotch egg, feta and tomato puffs, Mexican style corn fritters as well as a range of dips, salads and desserts. They're even supplying ice creams and drinks like their Strawberry Daiquiri Mocktail or sangria.
It does sound like fun with everyone getting their own picnic pitch with cushions and blankets and a DJ on hand to supply the tunes. If you're thinking of going though you'd better book now as slots are filling up fast.
