London restaurants get ready for the MHK Meatball Competition

mhk meatball competition london

We've had the Scotch Egg Challenge, the Slider Decider, the Croquetas Challenge and Wing Fest. Now London is about to see a new food competition setting restaurants against each other. The MHK Meatball competition held at Mortimer House Kitchen this month will feature chefs from eight top London restaurants competing with their interpretation of the humble meatball.

For one night the restaurant's Executive Chef Tom Cenci is going to hand over his kitchen for the event which is raising funds for the Movember charity. On the list for the inaugural competition are:

  • Chris Leach - Manteca
  • Ruben Dawnay - Rubens Rubens
  • Luca Sanapo - Firebird
  • Anna Grasso - Grasso
  • Helen Graham - previously of Bubala
  • Neil Rankin - founder of Simplicity Foods
  • Tim Connor and Gianluigi Di Ghionno - Mortimer House Kitchen
  • Philip Limpl - Executive chef of Levan and Bar Levan

Of course, you can't have a competition without a series panel of judges to decide the winner and the inaugural event will have a panel featuring The Times’ restaurant critic Giles Coren, chef and food writer Ravneet Gill, food blogger Kar-Shing Tong (@ks_ate_here_) and... myself representing Hot Dinners.

If you fancy trying some of the best meatballs in town you can buy tickets to the event. They cost £25 which gets you samples of each dish, a drink on arrival from Limoncello di Capri and a vote. The winner's dish will then be served as a special at Mortimer House Kitchen on Father’s Day.
