1864 Bar and Kitchen is the new-look John Lewis rooftop

1864 Bar and Kitchen is the new-look John Lewis rooftop

They've had restaurants up on their rooftop before, but this year John Lewis Oxford Street are trying something new with 1864 Rooftop Bar & Kitchen (which is named after the year John Lewis was founded).

This time around, it's a team-up with Benugo, and it sounds like they're going for more of a party vibe than before, with space for 200 standing, but only just over 60 if you prefer to take a seat on the rooftop. With that in mind, there will be live DJ sets on Friday and Saturday nights and much more of an emphasis on the bar.

Cocktails include the Oaxaca Martini (Del Maguey mezcal, Olmeca Reposado tequila, Cointreau liqueur, lime and agave) and there is a small bar food menu. On that, you'll find:

  • Lobster rolls with pickled cucumber and Marie Rose sauce
  • Seaweed tempura monkfish with a wild garlic emulsion
  • Vegan chocolate mousse topped with crushed hazelnuts and olive oil.

It opens today, so if you find yourself on Oxford Street when the weather actually improves, this might be worth checking out.
